I remember when I used to monitor the portal in 'ol days of '04 -'06 (man I feel old), there was about a 3:1 crap to decent flash ratio. I fear this ratio has risen for the worse. It's almost like people don't EVEN CARE ANYMORE. When I monitor the portal, I make sure I evaluate each flash thoroughly. I can always assume something by the filesize, or lack of artwork, or even misspellings in the flash description or lack thereof or whatever; but here is the thing: I don't assume. I watch EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN SUBMISSION. THEN I vote. It's only fair. Hey, you know what happens when you ASSUME.

You make an ASS out of U and ME.

But that's beside the point.

I watch AT LEAST the first ten seconds. If it's too bad then I blam. But otherwise, I usually sit through all of it. Now, here is where I'm pissed. Who is helping me? Are these thirteen year-old pre-pubescent happy-go-lucky little douchebags even voting fairly? I don't care if you can't cook up something better. If there is one place in the world where the "If you can't do it better don't say anything" philosophy doesn't apply, its Newgrounds.

Look, if I sound obsessed (which I probably am) then maybe numbers can reach you if my words don't. Ok, lets see here...if 75 submissions get blammed every day on average, and my ratio still applies, lets say it's 3, no, 2.6 (that was yesterday's submission/blam ratio) then there are about...195 submissions, right? Subtract 75 from 195 that's 120 flashes that pass judgement. Try and follow me now. Out of those 120, how many do you think make it above a 1? A 2? 3? 4? The mass lie in the 2's. 3's are here and there, while the 4's are rare and 1's and below are slightly more common. Now here is my point. The 2's don't deserve 2's. Some don't deserve to be hosted here at all. The good flashes have gotten way better over the years but the bad flashes haven't. It's kinda like giving a bad guitarist a good guitar. It's gonna be shit, no matter how good the instrument. Now give it to a guy with some experience. Then it enchances the experience. Just make the guitarist an animatior and the guitar Flash MX and you can see what I mean.

Let's stop thinking about ourselves. For once, think of the good of Newgrounds. This place deserves better, and it shouldn't be run by egotistical assholes that is what YouTube is for. This is flash. it demands skill and work. This place should have tighter quality control but it doesn't. You can't be too rough on new animatiors of course, but you need some standards. If my estimates are correct, then all these wannabe animators are flooding Newgrounds with 29200+ worthless files anually. Waste of space. There is no way to clean out all that shit over a decade.

I guess over this gigantic rant (I'm on spring break here I'm bored) all I'm trying to say is that I love this place too much to see it be a bitch all of the sudden and take everyone's crap (literally). Here, the user has the power to decide what is worthy of being hosted and what doesn't. That is the charm of Newgrounds. No one else lets you do that. Now everyone is loosening up and adhereing to the whole "everyone gets a trophy" wave of thinking. It's such bullshit it's not just a problem for Newgrounds or Youtube, but it's a problem in the whole goddamn world. Until we grow some balls and stand up, this isn't going to stop.

I should probably stop now. I said what I needed. I just felt like writing something. I seriously doubt anyone would take the time to read this entire entry; but I'll tell you what. If one person reads this and understands what I'm getting at, then this was time well wasted.

After all, what time is better wasted than a blog written in proper grammar?
